Class Trip to Costa Rica - Rainforest and Beach Adventure

Costa Rica is for the adventure minded school group.  Howler monkeys, Sloth’s, whitewater rafting, rainforests, and amazing tropical beaches.  These are just some of the sites that await you in Costa Rica

Sample Itinerary - 6 Days

Day 1

Arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica, and meet your Appleseed guide once you pass through customs and immigration.  You will transfer by bus to the hotel, then have a bit of time to freshen up and, if time permits, maybe even shop at a traditional Costa Rican market in downtown San Jose.  Following dinner you will return to the hotel and have a chance to share the day’s experiences.

Day 2

This will be a day of unforgettable white water rafting!  The Pacuare River provides an adventurous ride filled with stunning beauty along the entire length of its turning, twisting rapids.  The river runs from the country's highest mountain range to the coastal lowlands of the Atlantic, and it is a safe, but very exciting experience!

Instead of white water rafting, your group might choose a catamaran ride to the white sandy beaches of Tortuga Island.  You will enjoy great food, lots of activities, and a whole lot of sun!

Day 3

After breakfast, the group will travel to Fortuna and Mt. Arenal, one of the world’s most active volcanoes.  You will make a stop along the way in Zarcero for a visit to a church with some very unique landscaping then proceed to the rainforest for a hike down to a spectacular waterfall.  In the evening, the group will enjoy the natural hot springs at the foot of the volcano, and if it is a clear night, you will also get to see the mighty fireworks of Arenal!

Day 4

This morning you will have the unique experience of soaring through the jungle canopy on a zip line tour!  Following lunch, the group will travel back to San Jose via Sarchi to do a little shopping among the local artisan crafts.  There will even be a chance to taste some world-renowned Costa Rican coffee, as well.

Day 5

On this final day in Costa Rica you will help a local wellness center in the San Jose area.  Service opportunities can vary from light construction projects to tutoring and mentoring children.  You will work with your coordinator to find the best fit for your group.  In the late afternoon you will head to the historic center of San Jose and shop at the local markets.

Day 6

Head home after an amazing trip to Costa Rica!

Optional activities include:
*Catamaran ride in the Pacific Ocean
*Add an extra day and go to Tamarindo for surfing
*Scuba Dive or Snorkel the Catalinas Islands
*Take an ATV ride into the rainforest
*Horseback ride along the beach
