On this school trip, students will learn about the culture and history of Italy from the Roman times to modern day culture.  Discover Old World splendor on our Amalfi Coast adventure and immerse yourself in the beauty and culture of the central Italian coastline. Complete your adventure  by taking in ancient Rome, the Vatican and the majestic beauty of northern Italy. As you venture from Sorrento to Florence and throughout Tuscany, you will visit historic locales such the Roman Coliseum, Ponte Vecchio, statue of David and many others.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 & 2 – Fly to Rome, Italy

Your group will take an overnight flight to Rome, where an Appleseed Expeditions guide will meet you at the airport. Traveling by private coach, your group will transfer to Florence in the beautiful Tuscany region of Italy and then begin a tour of the city by visiting the massive church called the Duomo. You will have a chance to view Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise and Giotto’s Bell Tower then later enjoy dinner in an atmosphere only Florence can provide. There will even be time for a stroll through Ponte Vecchio and other famous shopping areas of Florence. This busy first day will conclude with an orientation to the program.

Day 3 – Service Project with the Salvation Army

This morning your group will make its way to tour the Galleria dell’Accademia, where you will see the towering statue of David. You will then transfer to Rome and meet a representative from the Salvation Army who will introduce the service project to you. The group will spend time this afternoon serving the homeless community of Rome. Dinner and a time of reflection will round out the day.

 Day 4 – Finishing your Service Project and Sightseeing in Rome

This morning you will continue to participate in a service project, allowing you to experience Rome in a very unique way. By the late afternoon you will be ready to see the sites, and your group will make way to the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain before dinner and a time of sharing wrap up another busy day.

Day 5 – Serving the Elderly of Rome

Students will spend time with some of the elderly people of Rome. After spending time sharing and playing games with these interesting people you will once again venture out on the town and enjoy dinner before closing out the day.

 Day6 – A day of touring Arches, a Prison and a Colosseum

Today will be your best chance to tour the ancient city of Rome! Your time will be spent visiting the 2000-year-old Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, the Arch of Titus and the ancient Roman Forum, as well as a tour of Mamertine Prison — the traditional site of St. Paul’s imprisonment while in Rome. Following dinner, you will close the day with a time of reflection.

 Day 7 – A Tour of the Vatican City

Your final full day in Italy will allow your group a tour of Vatican City. You will visit St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museum.  A highlight of the day will surely be seeing the Sistine Chapel, home of Michelangelo’s Last Judgment and other masterful works. In the evening you will enjoy an authentic Italian meal before the day concludes with a time to reflect on all that you experienced throughout the week.

Day 8 – The Journey Home

This morning your group will depart for the flight home.
