While on this Appleseed Expeditions’ educational history trip to Philadelphia, students will learn about the birthplace of our nation.  Learn about the foundation of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution at Independence Hall, recreate the famous scene from “Rocky” as you run up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, then embark on a spooky ghost tour to see the spirits who still haunt historic Philadelphia. This school trip to Philadelphia is designed to teach young leaders about sacrifice, commitment and standing up for what is right.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Philadelphia and Visit the Liberty Bell

Arrive in Philadelphia and meet your professional tour guide. Your first stop is at the Mutter Museum. Later we will enjoy a historic walk in Old Philadelphia, to see the Liberty Bell, Carpenter’s Hall, and more… Discover Philadelphia’s maritime history during your self-guided tour of the Independence Seaport Museum. Savor an authentic Philly cheesesteak at Steaks on South on bustling South Street. Experience the history of the American Continental Army!

Day 2 – Explore Penns Landing, Constitution and Independence Hall

Discover Philadelphia’s fascinating history on your sightseeing tour of the city, to include Penn’s Landing, the Delaware River Waterfront, Constitution Hall, the Old City, the Fairmount and Art Museum Area and more… Time for lunch and to explore Reading Terminal Market, a unique and extraordinary historic farmers market in Center City Philadelphia (at individual expense). See where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were created at Independence Hall.Take an optional tour of Betsy Ross’s Home. In the evening take in a optional baseball game (if available). If baseball game is not available then we will take the group bowling (optional activity).

Day 3 – Volunteer at a Food Bank, Visit the Franklin Institute and Eastern Penitentiary

Spend the morning volunteering at a local food bank. Here we will work together to help eliminate global hunger issues. Volunteer work includes distributing meals, sorting food and helping process vegetables. Later head to Lancaster.

Day 4 – Sight and Sound and the Amish

Following breakfast, the group will check out of the hotel and head to a working Amish Farm. Here students will learn about the local Amish communities. We will study their faith, working ethics and family values. Lunch at an Amish restaurant called “Good and Plenty”. Here students will be able to taste the vegetables and livestock grown by local Amish communities. Later we will take in the show Jonah or Moses depending on scheduled event at the world famous “Sight and Sound Theater”. Sight & Sound Theatre is the largest faith-based live theatre in the country and has been described as “Christian Broadway.” Last year, nearly a million people from around the world came to experience a production at one of Sight & Sound’s theatre in Lancaster County, PA.

Day 5 – The Journey Home

After breakfast the group will pack up and make the journey to the airport for the fight home.
