COLONIES TO THE REVOLUTION

On this Appleseed Expeditions’ school trip to Williamsburg, students will learn about the early colonies and be involved in serving this local community.  Experience the early colonies and learn about the stories of John Smith and Pocahontas. Get caught up in the stories of struggle and hardship. Witness the arrival of news of the Declaration of Independence and join the debate over the meaning of “All men are created equal.” As  you travel to Yorktown you will experience the history of the revolutionary war and the foundation of a new nation.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Williamsburg and Visit Jamestown

You will meet your Appleseed guide in Williamsburg. The first stop will be St. John’s Church, where Patrick Henry gave his famous “Give me liberty or give me death” speech. The group will then head over to the Jamestown Settlement to learn about the first permanent English settlement in the New World. After an afternoon filled with many hands-on activities, you will head back to your hotel.

Day 2 – Explore Colonial Williamsburg and Volunteer

Traveling to Colonial Williamsburg, your school group will enjoy an all-day educational tour that includes such sites as the Capitol building and Governor’s Palace, as well as participation in reenactments and hands-on activities about life in the 18th century. Your lunch will be in Colonial Williamsburg in one of the taverns.  In the late afternoon, your group will volunteer at a local food bank.

 Day 3 – Enjoy Busch Gardens

Checking out of the hotel, the group will head over to Busch Gardens for an all day theme park adventure (optional entrance fee). After riding roller coasters, your group will head home.

Add an Extra Day and Visit Norfolk or Yorktown

Norfolk has many nautical attractions in the city.  This area offers educational activities ranging from ship design to cleaning up oil spills at sea. Optional visits to the USS. Wisconsin, an Iowa Class battleship and a veteran of the Pacific campaigns of World War II.  Other options could include a Revolutionary War tour in Yorktown.
