Alternative Break to Guatemala

Guatemala has a great mixture of people, culture and jaw-dropping views of volcanoes. If you’re into the Maya, the mountains, the markets or a million other things, you’re bound to be captivated. Even the shortest trip takes you to completely different places, with new challenges and surprises. Groups will be involved in the CCCG project that promotes education and provides medical assistance to the remote areas of Guatemala. Appleseed Expeditions Alternative Break program to Guatemala gets students involved in mentoring impoverished children, providing medical assistance for remote communities and helping with food programs in Guatemala City.

Trip Itinerary

 Day 1 – Arrive in Guatemala City

Fly into Guatemala City, the capitol of the Guatemala. After settling in, the group will take a guided tour of the city and get familiar with the area. Afterwards we will have a group orientation and introduction to the service project.

 Day 2 – Head to Rio Dulce

This morning the group will pack up for a day of travel to the Rio Dulce area were they will spend the next few days helping with a service project and mentoring the local children.

 Days 3 to 5 – Service Project

With the help of a local pastor the group will aid with various construction projects for a community north of Guatemala. Here you will assist with projects that will enhance the lives of the local people. Your group will teach leadership, mentor students, help with construction, run soccer camps, and develop vision in the lives of the local people. The students will also spend time teaching English to the local children. Other work may include painting, light construction, and a variety of other benevolent programs needed at the time of the trip.

 Day 6 – Visit the Local Beach

Today the group will take some time to enjoy the beautiful Caribbean beach. Spend the day exploring the areas beach ecosystems.

 Day 7 – Guatemala City

After breakfast, make the journey back to Guatemala City. Spend the afternoon touring the city and experiencing the local culture. Enjoy dinner in the city.

 Day 8 – The Journey Home

After breakfast take a little time to visit the two-story Central Market to pick up some souvenirs before heading to the airport for the flight home.
