On this educational trip to St. Augustine, students will learn about the history of the Spanish conquistadores while serving the local Hispanic community.  This St. Augustine program is designed to highlight famous historical personas and culture that influenced the foundation of Florida.  Students will study Ponce de Leon and his quest for the Fountain of Youth.  Your group will also study the acquisition of Florida by the United States.  The program includes a guided tour of the Castillo de San Marcos, the Authentic Old Jail, the Oldest Store Museum Experience, or the Florida History Museum. A trolley tour, narrated by a specially trained and certified conductor, will cover over 400 years of history and 100 points of interest.on.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Serve at RCMA and then on to St. Augustine

The group will stop at the RCMA center in Palatka, FL. Here the students will have the opportunity to mentor migrant children through an after school program. Plan on helping with activities such as reading, games, coloring, planting vegetation, light construction, etc. After spending time with the children at the RCMA center you will continue on to St. Augustine, FL. Following dinner the group will have a program orientation before enjoying a night time Ghost Tour of the area.

Day 2 – Explore Historic St. Augustine

This morning your group the group will familiarize yourselves with the town via a narrated trolley tour. The group will visit the Castillo de San Marcos a.k.a. “The Old Fort”, and have some time to shop for souvenirs. Next, visit the St. Augustine Fountain of Youth. The group will have lunch at Lighthouse Park and then go to the St. Augustine Lighthouse. After a guided tour of the Gonzalez-Alvarez House that dates back to 1702 your group will go to the Pirate and Treasure Museum. A time of reflection will wrap up the day.

Day 3 – Old Florida Museum and More

After breakfast the group will pack up and check out of the hotel. You will visit the Old Jail and Oldest Schoolhouse before heading to the Old Florida Museum. Here the students will take part in a “HANDS-ON” program designed to be entertaining as well as educational. Students will experience life in St. Augustine through the struggles and successes of its people during distinct time periods of Florida’s history. From here you will load the bus to head home.
