EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO PUERTO RICO

RAINFOREST TO REEFS

TRIP LENGTH: 4 DAYS (*Starting at $995]

Itinerary can be customized to fit within your time frame or budgetary needs

At Appleseed Expeditions we believe that student travel combined with service can change our global communities in a positive way.  Our educational trips to Puerto Rico are meant to inspire students to use their gifts and talents to make a difference in this global community.  We choose specific experiential programs that immerse students in this Latin culture while teaching them about endemic rainforest habitats. It is our hope to shape the lives of students to become future leaders who fight against social injustice and promote global conservation. Spanish is the primary language spoken and this island provides the perfect opportunity for school students to practice their newly learned craft . Additionally, this island has an abundance of adventures  including amazing rainforest waterfalls, bioluminescent kayak tours, and incredible coral reefs.  (*Does not include airfare. Please contact our office for price including airfare)

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Your student group will fly to San Juan and meet your guide and set off to explore the city. Take a guided walking tour of the Old World Spanish Settlement founded by Ponce de Leon, seeker of the fountain of youth. Visit ancient forts and go shopping in the colonial city. Dinner will follow with a reflection from the day’s events.

Day 2 – Hike the El Yunque Rainforest

Today the group will travel to El Yunque Rainforest and have a chance to hike in the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. You will be amazed at the many species of animals and plants found here. A rain forest ecologist will discuss biomes, wildlife and species diversity. Later in the day you will visit a local farm that makes organic cheese and dairy products.  You will be able to make your own cheese and have it shipped home.

Day 3 – Volunteer in San Juan and Visit Camuy Caverns

During your final day in Puerto Rico, your educational group will take the opportunity to serve at a local inner-city school. Here you may plant a local garden, paint, do light construction or other light types of service needed. Following lunch, your group will head to the Camuy Caverns. The Rio Camuy Cave Park is one of the biggest cave systems in the world. In the 268 acre park you will experience breathtaking views of the caves during a trolley tour.
