SAMPLE EDUCATIONAL SCHEDULE – ZION & BRYCE CANYON
Day 1 – Arrival & Introduction to Southwest Geology
Arrive in Utah and meet your expedition leaders. Students receive an introduction to the geology of the Colorado Plateau and learn how Zion and Bryce Canyon were formed over millions of years through uplift, erosion, and deposition.
Day 2 – Zion National Park Science Field Study
Spend the day exploring Zion National Park through guided hikes and observation points. Students study canyon walls, rock layers, and river systems while learning how water has shaped one of the most dramatic landscapes in North America. Field journaling and ecological observation activities reinforce STEM learning.
Day 3 – Bryce Canyon Geology & Hoodoo Formation Study
Travel to Bryce Canyon National Park to explore its famous hoodoo formations. Students examine rock weathering, frost wedging, and erosion processes that create the park’s unique structures. Discussions focus on geologic time and landscape transformation.
Day 4 – Native American Cultural Immersion & Desert Ecology
Engage in cultural learning experiences focused on Paiute history, storytelling, and land stewardship. Students also explore desert ecosystems, studying how plants and animals survive in arid environments while connecting cultural knowledge to environmental science.
Day 5 – Reflection & Departure
Students participate in guided reflection activities connecting geology, ecology, and cultural learning. The program concludes with discussions on environmental stewardship, scientific observation, and personal growth before departure.
