Seeds of Support: Caring for Migrant Youth in
South Florida

Embark on a powerful journey to uplift and mentor South Florida’s migrant children—often referred to as “ghost children” because their families move frequently with the agricultural seasons, making them nearly invisible to many social systems. These children face immense challenges, including inconsistent education, poverty, language barriers, and limited access to healthcare.

Sample Schedule

Day 1 – Tour the RCMA Mentoring Center for Migrant Children

  • This introductory program offers valuable insight into the lives of migrant children and the unique challenges they face. You'll meet the educators who work tirelessly to support them and be introduced to the students themselves. This initial connection helps build trust and sets the stage for authentic, meaningful service. Whether you’re helping with academics, mentoring, or hands-on projects, this moment opens the door to relationships that make a real difference—in their lives and yours.

Day 2 – Volunteer at RCMA After School Assistance Program

  • Start your day with purpose by volunteering at the migrant after-school care center.
Support the children of migrant workers through reading activities, homework assistance, and hands-on gardening projects that nurture both minds and hearts.

  • Lend a hand with light construction and cleaning at the RCMA Center in South Florida.
Your efforts help create a safer, more welcoming environment for the children of migrant families to learn and grow.

Day 3 – Volunteer at the Keys Wild Bird Sanctuary

  • Join a meaningful hands-on experience as you assist veterinarians and wildlife specialists in caring for injured and orphaned birds at the Keys Wild Bird Sanctuary. Your efforts may include helping to expand enclosures, preparing specialized food, participating in light construction projects, cleaning habitats, and supporting rescue and rehabilitation operations. This service opportunity not only aids in the recovery of native species but also gives you a firsthand look at the vital role sanctuaries play in wildlife conservation.

Day 4 – Kayak Keys Backcountry / Key West

  • Paddle through Nature’s Maze
Glide through the peaceful mangrove tributaries by kayak, discovering the hidden ecosystems and quiet beauty of the Florida Keys’ untouched backcountry.

  • Experience the Charm of Key West
Wander the streets of the southernmost city in the U.S., where tropical breezes meet literary history. Explore the vibrant shops, scenic waterfront, and landmarks once home to Ernest Hemingway.

Day 5 – Continue Volunteering w/ Children of Migrant Workers

  • Continue supporting the children of migrant workers by engaging in meaningful projects such as construction, painting, and providing valuable assistance to their teachers. Your efforts help create a nurturing and inspiring learning environment for these deserving students.

Begin a transformative journey in South Florida centered on servant leadership and meaningful impact. Join us as we support and uplift the children of migrant workers, empowering their futures through compassionate service and educational discovery.

Customer review good rating concept hand pressing five star on visual screen and positive

My sons have been on a few school trips, and this was their favorite. It was well organized. Appleseed was able to to be flexible and easily make reasonable schedule changes for the weather. My son had a great time! The hotel was nice. The price was reasonable. The guides gave the right amount of educational info without boring the kids. I would definitely travel with Appleseed again.
